Born in 1981: the Metal Rooster
If you were born in 1981, your Chinese zodiac sign is the Rooster 鸡, and the year's Heavenly Stem is Xin, which gives the year its element: Metal. So a full 1981 reading is a Metal Rooster. People born in 1981 turn 45 years old in 2026 (or have already, depending on the birthday).
The one exception: January and February birthdays
The Chinese zodiac year does not start on January 1. In 1981, Lunar New Year fell on 1981-02-05. Anyone born in 1981 before that date belongs to the previous year's animal — use the homepage finder with an exact birth date and it handles the boundary for you.
Metal Rooster personality, briefly
Observant, organised and unafraid to say it plainly, the Rooster keeps the schedule, the standards and the receipts. Roosters take pride in doing things properly and notice every detail others miss. The Metal stem is traditionally said to shade that character — Metal adds precision, resolve and a taste for high standards. One sentence is all a birth year can honestly carry; the rest is entertainment.
